Our Catholic Faith — Sadlier Religion
For ages 10-14. Presents Catholic doctrine in easy-to-understand lessons. Fourteen chapters in four units serve as a catch-up catechism for baptized but uncatechized students in grades 4-6. May be taught in 14 or 28 sessions. The four unit themes are: We are Created and Saved (basic salvation history); The Church, the People of God (Church and sacraments); The Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and the Mass); Living as Jesus' Disciples (commandments, Beatitudes, Sacrament of Reconciliation, works of mercy, communion of saints). An appendix features doctrinal review, explanation of the liturgical year, basic prayers and glossary. Also includes unit and summary tests. Our Catholic Faith is not intended to be a sacramental preparation program. However, it does include an in-depth presentation of the meaning, purpose, and celebration of the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist. Most lessons begin with stories, include Scripture, define key terms, and have ideas for family activities. Each chapter also has a Did You Know? sidebar article that covers a special topic: angels, covenant, the bishops, holy days of obligation, canonization, justice and peace, and others. Guide is in wraparound format. Approved by the Bishops' Committee. Imprimatur. (©2009)
