Saint Peter
First Century
Feast Day -- June 29
Saint Peter was a fisherman with his brother Saint Andrew. Later, he was the leader of Jesus' followers. He knew that Jesus was the Son of God, but he also knew Jesus was a man. He ate, prayed, walked, and talked with Jesus. Peter knew that Jesus got tired and hungry. He knew when Jesus was happy and sad. But most of all, he knew that Jesus loved everyone. After Jesus died, Peter told many people about him. Saint Peter is considered to be the first Pope.
Patron of fishermen, shipbuilders, and the Papacy. Saint Peter was first called Simon. Jesus changed his name to Peter, which means "rock."
Dear Saint Peter, you were the first Pope. Keep our Pope safe from all harm. Amen.
