Blessed Pope John XXIII
1881-1963
Pope John XXIII was born Angelo Roncalli, the son of a poor Italian farmer. Following Jesus' example, he used stories from nature to teach people about God's love. He loved to make people laugh. He was an old man when he was made Pope. Even after he became the Pope, he liked to talk with people and to tell stories about God's love.
During World War I, Blessed Pope John served as a stretcher-bearer and a chaplain. He used to sneak out of the Vatican at night to walk the streets of Rome.
Dear Pope John, help us to always love the Church as you did and to protect her from wrong teaching. Amen.
