Participant Guide

Throughout the process, catechumens and candidates will explore and learn what the Catholic Church teaches, learn how to encounter God through the sacraments and the Church, as well as learn how to live out their faith and form a real, personal relationship with the Lord.

Covering 28 lessons, the Participant's Guide is designed to guide participants through each stage of the OCIA journey and support the teaching they receive in your meetings.

Written in an accessible and welcoming tone, each lesson delivers sound Catholic Teaching, grounded in Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, inviting them to learn, pray, reflect, and respond.

Each lesson includes:

• Opening and closing prayers drawn from the Catholic tradition
• A couple of burning questions to begin connecting the mind and the heart.
• A saint's story that brings doctrine to lived experience
• The main Catholic teaching presented in clear, accessible prose grounded in Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. 
• Sidebars linking to additional videos, podcast episodes, and blog posts available at no cost through the Ascension App
• Reflection questions and discussion prompts to help participants engage personally with the material.
• Vocabulary that introduces participants to the language of Catholic life and liturgy.
• Practical weekly activities that help participants move from learning to living.
• A prayer, devotion, or practice from the Catholic tradition to take home and make their own
