Saint John the Evangelist
First Century
Feast Day -- December 27
Saint John was the son of Zebedee and Salome. He was a follower of Saint John the Baptist and a fisherman until Jesus called him to be an Apostle. John was the only Apostle known to have been present at the Crucifixion. At that time, Jesus placed Mary in John's care. John is said to be the author of the Book of Revelation, as well as the Gospel according to John, and three Epistles. He was the last Apostle to die, and was very old at that time.
Patron against rain, hail, and lightening. In Hebrew Saint John's name means "Yahweh (God) is gracious."
Saint John, you were a friend to Jesus and Mary. Help us to be their friends as well. Amen.
