Saint Dominic
1170-1221
Feast Day -- August 8
Saint Dominic knew it was important for people who work for God to be together. He founded the Order of Preachers, or Dominicans. His motto was: "to praise, to bless, to preach." He wanted his followers to praise God, bless everyone they net, and preach the Gospel. He also wanted them to share all they had. Dominicans dedicate their lives to telling people the Good News, and they still live in community.

Patron of astronomers and astronomy. Saint Dominic is often shown the a hound because his mother dreamed about a dog with a torch in its mouth who "seemed to set the earth on fire."

Saint Dominic, help us keep our hearts, minds, and bodies from every evil. Amen.
