Christ Our Life 2009 utilizes a spiral curriculum that allows for continuous growth of faith in the students both in scope and depth. With a focus on Scripture, the content blends core beliefs: Creed, Sacraments, Commandments and Prayer. Each chapter includes opportunities for prayer, family features to encourage parental involvement, classical and multicultural artwork, Catholic social teaching applications, and activities.
The Kindergarten Student Book features family pages and colorful artwork and photos. A free Child’s Bible comes with each student book. The Kindergarten Teacher Manual includes lessons for four or five days a week, reproducible resources, classroom posters and music CDs.
Elementary Student Books have 25 core chapters and between 5 and 14 special and seasonal lessons. Each grade level student book includes a What Catholics Should Know section with prayers, Catholic doctrine summaries and guides to morality and to the Bible. Books also include punch-outs and pull-outs for hands-on activities. Each chapter features a Moment with Jesus section, age-appropriate activities and exercises, Scripture stories, Things to Do at Home, chapter summaries and review including vocabulary, and unit review exercises. A copy of the Catholic Prayer for Catholic Families booklet is included with each student book. Grade 2 includes preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Catechist Guides offer a weekly wraparound lesson plan. They include suggestions for how to use Scripture, music, church documents and Catholic social teaching in the lessons. Catechist guides also have goals for each lesson, lists of materials, key terms, bulletin board ideas and a Getting Started section. Extending the Chapter sections give catechists ideas for extra activities. All catechist guides include two free music CDs, a free classroom poster and a set of free Blackline Masters with reproducible tests and activities. Instead of a classroom poster for Grade 2, Jesus Gives Me His Peace and Jesus Gives Me Himself sacrament preparation booklets come with each student book.
